At TrailLite, our mission is to give Kiwis the keys to their next adventure with thoughtfully crafted products. We’re looking for a Design Manager who will champion this mission, steering the design and development of TrailLite products to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction and seamless production.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity that offers the right candidate the chance to shape the future of TrailLite’s products. We’re looking for an Industrial Designer with strong technical design expertise (upper-intermediate to senior-level) with demonstrated creative flair who can balance the practicality of engineering with the aesthetics of colour, material, and finish (CMF).

What you’ll be doing

• Developing robust, manufacturable designs that meet strength, cost, and production requirements.
• Contributing to creative direction and CMF choices, ensuring products reflect TrailLite’s premium brand.
• Supporting concept development, prototyping, testing, and refinement - balancing function and aesthetics.
• Collaborating across teams - from production and procurement through to sales and service.
• Providing guidance to junior designers and sharing your technical know-how.
• Driving continuous improvement by feeding back design and workmanship insights into our processes.
• Maintaining and support admin processing of existing designs

About You

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in product, mechanical, or industrial design (vehicle or manufacturing related experience a plus).
• Strong proficiency in Fusion 360 or SolidWorks (or similar advanced 3D CAD).
• Demonstrated ability to deliver production-ready designs that are reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
• An eye for aesthetics and CMF - able to shape material/finish choices that elevate the customer experience.
• Strong communicator and collaborator, with confidence to engage across functions and with suppliers.
• A proactive, solutions-driven mindset with high attention to detail.
