Tips for buying a new caravan
Ready to buy? How exciting. Here’s what to expect when you go through the process, including some questions to ask to help you know you’re making the right decision.
You must have a needs assessment consultation
You don’t know what you don’t know and this results in many people buying the wrong caravan for their intended purpose. Wherever you buy from, sit down with a product consultant and share what you’re hoping to achieve so they can talk you through your options and make recommendations.
Develop a list of non-negotiables
What MUST your caravan have and what is just a nice-to-have; in this way, buying a caravan is no different to buying a house, you’re going to have some things that are deal breakers.
Speak with customers of the company you are dealing with so they can share their experience and advice.
Visit the after sales service centre
It's very unwise to buy from a company without one. Where will you go if you have warranty issues? Who will look after you and your investment? You need to know you'll be supported after you drive away.
Ask the same questions of each dealer:
- How long have you been in the industry?
- How long have you been importing or making this product?
- What is this caravan designed for? Full-time living or holidaying?
- What does your after sales care include?
Speak to the experts about towing – add something in here about a tow assessment and ensuring your car is kitted out properly to tow the caravan you are buying with the right tow bar, tow ball and braking system.
